We are seeking a Data Analyst to transform the Group’s data estate - including policy administration, claims, finance, and operational data - into actionable business intelligence. This role is a foundational hire tasked with evolving the Group ICT function into an insights-driven enablement partner, delivering reporting solutions for executive decision-making, statutory compliance, and operational optimisation. This role will be based at our Durban offices within the Group ICT Department a Division of Icebolethu Group.

Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications.
  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related quantitative discipline
  • Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) or Azure Data Fundamentals certifications are highly preferred.
Experience and Knowledge required
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Data or Business Intelligence Analyst
  • Demonstrated success delivering executive-level dashboards and reports is required, preferably within insurance, financial services, banking, or a similarly regulated sector.
Skills and Competencies required
  • Data Extraction & Querying: Advanced SQL skills (joins, stored procedures, querying, and performance tuning) are non-negotiable.
  • Business Intelligence: Strong proficiency in Power BI (DAX, Power Query, dashboard design); Microsoft Excel (scenario modelling, pivot tables, Power Pivot).
  • Data Pipeline Frameworks: Understanding of relational database design, data warehousing concepts, and ETL principles. Exposure to Azure Data Services or Python/R is a major advantage.
  • Analytical & Communication Mastery: Exceptional ability to investigate anomalies, ensure data integrity, and translate technical, statistical findings into plain business language for executives.
Key Performance Areas:
BI Development & Dashboard Management
  • Extract, transform, validate, and model data from core Group source systems (Policy Administration, Claims, Finance/ERP, CRM).
  • Design, build, and maintain interactive management dashboards and reporting pipelines in Power BI.
  • Manage, update, and version-control the analytics catalogue, data dictionaries, and metric definitions to ensure group-wide consistency.
Executive & Regulatory Reporting
  • Produce and distribute the weekly operational performance packs (sales, claims, lapses, persistency) and the monthly Executive Analytics Pack.
  • Partner with Finance and Compliance to compile, validate, and submit accurate regulatory and statutory reports (such as FSCA returns and internal audit packs).
  • Conduct targeted deep-dive data analyses to answer strategic operational questions raised by Executive Management.
Data Governance & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Run data-quality and integrity checks across reporting datasets, tracking anomalies directly with source-system owners.
  • Collaborate with developers and system administrators to optimise data accessibility, security, and infrastructure pipelines.
  • Conduct review sessions with Sales, Operations, and Finance to drive self-service BI adoption and gather feedback for the analytics roadmap.
